Consumer Buying Habits
At valv.org we attempt to establish that models of consumer shopping behavior and buying habits. Along with new insights into the behavior of consumers, our results also provide implications for retailers and others interested in applications of the findings. First, U.S. consumer shopping patterns are very stable in our data set and have predictable effects on in-store impulses. The insight that store loyal buyers are likely to be most responsive to changes in the store’s pricing and selling environment gives retailers who can assess the relative mix of loyal and switching shoppers in their stores a basis for forecasting the effectiveness of price changes. Our conclusion also show that the tools needed to appeal to store loyal and switching consumers are different. The majority of consumers who switch among stores do so within formats rather than across them.
